SPANISH CHESTNUT

Introduction
Spanish chestnut is light to yellowish brown in colour. It is normally clean and straight grained. To the untrained eye, it resembles Oak. Natural oils occouring in the wood render it remarkably Durable. The timber is of low to medium density and machines easily to a semi lustrous textured finish
Flooring boards are available in 80mm and 135 mm widths. This floor forms an attic dormitory in Saggart, Co.Dublin.

General Description
The saying “An old chestnut” originated when the ancient Romans discovered there was no nourishment in the fruit of the species.
Mild to severe spiral grain can be a problem with logs, and the wood of older teees tends to be weaker and more brittle.

Shown above is a Spanish chestnut 80mm wide floor. This flooring is available in tongued and grooved and end matched boards ranging in lengths from 300mm to 1500mm. Also available are 135mm and 180mm wide floor boards. These sizes generally tend to be longer in length. The floor comes unfinished and ready for secret nailing on battens, sheet material or floating, although it is not recommended to float 180mm wide floors. The moisture content of the flooring is 10% +- 2%.
